Job Summary:
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instructional support and creating an inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities. They will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet each student's unique needs, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional growth. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with other educators, parents/guardians, and support staff to promote an inclusive educational experience.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in accordance with state and federal regulations.
2. Adapt and modify curriculum materials to accommodate diverse learning needs and styles.
3. Provide specialized instruction and support to students in various subjects, focusing on academic, social, and behavioral goals.
4. Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and instructional methods to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
5. Assess and monitor student progress regularly, making data-driven decisions to inform instructional planning and interventions.
6. Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure the integration of special education services into the classroom setting.
7. Communicate and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on student progress, goals, and interventions.
8. Attend and actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, contributing valuable insights and recommendations.
9. Implement behavior management strategies and techniques to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
10. Collaborate with support staff, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors, to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to student support.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
2. Valid teaching certification or license in Special Education.
3. Proven experience working as a Special Education Teacher, preferably in an educational setting.
4. Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
5. Knowledge of various disabilities and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.
6. Proficient in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) based on student assessments and goals.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
8. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
9. Knowledge of evidence-based teaching strategies and instructional methods for students with disabilities.
10. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
